Be of Good Cheer: You Weren’t Made to Fit In—You Were Made to Lead Change
Let’s talk about a phrase Jesus used that might hit different when you're grinding through deadlines, meetings, or feeling the pressure to “blend in”:
“Be of good cheer.”
John 16:33 – “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (NIV) or [KJV] In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
At first glance, it might sound like something you'd see on a coffee mug. But this wasn’t just a feel-good quote. It was a challenge. A promise. And a mindset.
The original Greek word used here—tharseō—means to take heart, be bold, be courageous. Jesus was saying: “Yes, you’re going to face hard stuff. Yes, the world can be overwhelming. But don’t let it shake you. I’ve already conquered what you’re walking through.”
You’re Not Here to Fit In—You’re Here to Influence
It’s tempting to try and “play the game”—fit into the culture at work, mirror the vibe in your industry, or mute parts of your faith so you don’t stand out.
But hear this: You were never designed to blend in.
You were created to bring the Kingdom of God into every space you enter—as light in dark places and salt in tasteless systems (Matthew 5:13–16).
Your faith, your integrity, your excellence—they’re not liabilities. They’re power moves. The grace and anointing on your life? That’s your edge. It causes shifts in rooms, minds, and systems—whether you’re in a Zoom meeting, pitching a project, teaching a class, or leading a team.
Let the Pressure Push You Toward Purpose
Jesus didn’t sugarcoat it. “You will have trouble.” Life is going to test you. But the goal isn’t just survival—it’s impact.
Every challenge is an opportunity to bring truth, creativity, and clarity to spaces that need God’s presence.
So instead of asking, “How do I fit in?”
Start asking, “How can I influence this space for good?”
Take Heart. Lead Boldly.
You carry something the world can’t replicate—the Spirit of God, the mind of Christ, and the boldness to lead with purpose.
So be of good cheer.
Be courageous in conversations.
Be excellent in your craft.
Be bold about your values.
The world doesn’t need more conformity. It needs your clarity.
You’re not just surviving in these spaces—you’re shaping the
