Good Roots Produce Good Fruit: Living the Fruit of the Spirit as Leaders
In leadership, there are seasons when we feel unsung, unpraised, or unnoticed. Yet, even in silence, our worth does not diminish. We are image-bearers of God, entrusted as His ambassadors on the earth. Our calling is not simply about what we do, but about who we are. Leadership is not defined by applause but by character.
Jesus taught that a tree is known by its fruit (Matthew 7:17–20). The fruit reveals the root. When our roots are anchored in God’s Word and His Spirit, our leadership naturally bears the evidence—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are not optional add-ons to leadership; they are essential markers of Kingdom leadership.
Titles may impress, but fruit transforms. Skill may open doors, but character sustains influence. As leaders, we must reflect godly character consistently, understanding that others are watching—not to glorify us, but to see Christ through us.
Key Principles for Leaders
-
Identity before activity: Who you are matters more than what you do.
-
Roots determine fruit: Your belief system, values, and daily disciplines form the unseen root system that produces visible outcomes.
-
Leadership is stewardship: We are ambassadors of Christ, entrusted with influence that must point others back to Him.
When we nurture good roots—through prayer, Scripture, accountability, and humility—we inevitably produce fruit that leaves a lasting legacy.
Scripture Focus
Matthew 7:17–20 (KJV):
“Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for choosing me as Your ambassador in this world. Even when I feel overlooked, remind me that my value is rooted in being Your image bearer. Help me to cultivate good roots by staying connected to You through prayer and Your Word. May the fruit of the Spirit be evident in my leadership, influencing others for Your glory and leaving behind a legacy of character and faith. Strengthen me to lead with integrity, humility, and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
