Finding Light in the Darker Mornings with Angels Charge and Heavenly Father

Introduction: Protection at the Corner 

The seasons have shifted. In the summer, the sun greeted me on my way into the coworking space. But now, in the fall, it’s still dark when I arrive—and for the past few days, I’ve been the first person in the building. Like anyone, I wondered about my safety. 

One morning, I noticed a policeman stationed on the corner. He stayed until the sun began to rise. I don’t know why he was there—whether he was assigned or simply felt prompted—but I knew this much: I serve a God who cares deeply about every detail of my life. His Word reminds me that part of my “benefits package” as His child is that He gives His angels charge over me (Psalm 91:11). 

That morning, I was reassured—not just by the officer, but by the awareness that my heavenly Father watches over my coming and going. This is more than comfort; it is a leadership principle. If God is concerned with my safety and destiny, then I too must walk in wisdom, steward well the people and places entrusted to me, and lead with both courage and awareness. 

God’s Watching Care 

Psalm 121:1–8 (NIV) tells us: 

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth… The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.” 

This Scripture doesn’t promise that we will never face darkness, danger, or uncertainty. But it assures us that God is actively watching, guarding, and aligning our path with His purpose. Romans 8:28 echoes this: even what seems uncertain or threatening is ultimately woven into God’s good plan for those who love Him.  

Leadership Development: Principles from God’s Watchfulness 

Leaders often feel the weight of responsibility for people, projects, and outcomes. But remembering that God Himself is watching provides freedom. You are not leading alone. 

The policeman on the corner symbolized safety for me. In the same way, leaders must be guardians of the spaces they influence—ensuring psychological safety, respect, and trust for those they serve. 

Walking into a dark space required courage. Having the policeman nearby added assurance. Likewise, leaders must embrace courage but also welcome wise safeguards—mentors, accountability partners, and guardrails that keep them aligned. 

God secures your destiny. Leaders who believe this truth lead with integrity, because they understand their assignment isn’t merely about success, but about safeguarding legacy.

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the One who never slumbers nor sleeps. You watch over my life, my family, my work, and my destiny. Help me to walk in wisdom and courage, knowing You go before me. Teach me to create safe spaces for others and to lead with integrity, awareness, and trust in Your plan. May my leadership reflect the assurance that You hold all things together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
