Leading with faith isn't just about having good intentions: it requires wisdom, discernment, and practical skills that many well-meaning leaders struggle to develop. Whether you're pastoring a church, leading a ministry team, or guiding a faith-based organization, certain pitfalls can derail even the most sincere efforts.

Here are seven critical mistakes that could be undermining your leadership effectiveness, along with actionable strategies to turn things around.

Mistake #1: Prioritizing Performance Over Divine Dependence

The most dangerous trap for faith-based leaders is gradually shifting from God-dependence to self-reliance. This happens when you start "muscling" things forward through your own talents, energy, and determination rather than seeking divine guidance first.

Don't get me wrong: using your God-given gifts is essential. The problem arises when performance becomes your primary mode of operation instead of genuine reliance on God as your ultimate source of direction and power.
