Calling.
Your calling isn't hiding from you. It's already in your hands — the gift you keep discounting, the burden you can't put down, the neighbor you can't stop noticing.
Christian calling is the specific invitation of God on a believer's life — the intersection of gift, burden, and neighbor, lived as worship inside ordinary work.
Five marks of a true calling
It is heard, not manufactured
Calling begins with listening — to Scripture, to the Spirit, to wise voices — long before it begins with strategy.
It aligns with Scripture
God never calls his people out of the character of Christ. If the 'call' contradicts the Word, it isn't a call — it's a craving.
It uses what is already in your hand
Moses had a staff. David had a sling. God rarely gives you a calling that requires you to be someone else — he sanctifies who you already are.
It serves a neighbor
A calling that only benefits you isn't a calling; it's a career. Kingdom calling always has a face on the other side of it.
It costs you something
The invitation of Jesus is 'come and die.' A calling that never asks for sacrifice hasn't yet met the God who is calling.
Stop waiting for a burning bush.
Most Christians are stuck because they are waiting for God to shout what he has already whispered. Calling rarely arrives as spectacle. It arrives as a small, persistent tug you cannot shake — the friend you keep coaching, the code you keep writing at night, the injustice you cannot stop naming.
At Avodah Dynamics we believe calling is the operating system of Avodah — the sacred braid of work, worship, and service. You do not find your calling by retreating from your life. You find it by paying holy attention to it.
Christian calling FAQ
What is a Christian calling?
The specific invitation of God on your life — the intersection of gift, burden, and neighbor, lived as worship inside ordinary work.
How do I discover my calling?
Through prayer, Scripture, godly counsel, and honest experimentation with the gifts already in your possession. Callings are confirmed in community, not decoded in isolation.
Can my job be my calling?
Yes — if you steward it as worship. Any lawful work done for the glory of God and the good of your neighbor is holy ground.
What if I feel called to something impossible?
Then you are in good biblical company. Move in the direction of the call one obedient step at a time; the resources tend to meet you en route.
