How Your Earth Suit Shapes Influence and Leadership
Nov 20, 2025by Cheryl Perkins
Whether you are leading a team, a classroom, a business, or a family—your body shows up before your ideas ever do.
We often talk about mindsets, strategies, influence, and vision. But none ofthose matterif the vessel carrying them is exhausted, neglected, or breaking down. Scripture says we are thetemple of the Holy Spirit, but even if a reader has no faith background, one truthremainsuniversal:
Purposerequiresa body that can carry it.
And leadership responsibility includes caring for that body with intention.
Maya's Story
A young professional leader I once coached—let’scall her Maya—was brilliant, driven, and deeply committed to her purpose. She carried vision in her soul and excellence in her work. But she treated her body like an afterthought.
Latenights. Poor sleep. Skipped meals. Constant adrenaline. She’djoke that she would “rest later.”
Untillaterarrived.
One day during a presentation, her body simply shut down. Shedidn’tcollapse, but her hands trembled, her words slurred, and her vision blurred. Her stress levels had peaked for months, and her body staged a quiet revolt.
After the meeting, she told me through tears,
“Ididn’trealize my body had a voice. Ididn’tlisten until it screamed.”
That moment became a turning point. Maya learned that brilliance is diminished when the body breaks. She began walking daily, eating intentionally, honoring rest, and stretching as regularly as she planned meetings.
Within months, shewasn’tjust healthier—she was sharper, more creative, more confident, and more present.
She said,
“Ididn’tjust get my energy back. I got myself back.”
Her bodydidn’tneed perfection. It needed partnership.
So does yours.
Faith Revelation: You Are a Temple
For Christians, this truth goes deeper.Scripture declares:
“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit…?” — 1 Corinthians 6:19
A temple is not a random building—it is adwelling place forglory,a space meant to be honored, protected, andmaintained.
Caring for your body is not vanity.
It is not selfishness.
It isstewardship.
Your earth suit is the only vehicle you have to fulfill God’s assignment on your life. If it breaks down—your purpose is delayed or detoured.
But when it thrives—your leadership flourishes.
Leadership Principles
1. You cannot lead ata high levelwith a low-capacity body.
Your physical stateimpactsyour decision-making, emotional stability, and clarity.
2. Rest is notweakness—it’sstrategic recovery.
High-performance leaders embrace rhythms of restoration.
3. Your body is your first leadership team member.
Strengthen it, train it, and partner with it.
4. Movement is ministry.
Walking, stretching, breathing—these are not “extras.” They are part of sustaining your assignment.
5. Stewardship builds credibility.
Leaders who care for themselves model responsibility and authenticity for others.
6. Your body will reveal what your habits try to hide.
Listen early;don’twait for it to break before you value it.
7. Treat self-care as leadership development, not luxury.
Youcan’tpour from an empty temple.
