Divine Revelation Unlocking Prophetic Words Through the Holy Spirit

    Jun 16, 2026by Cheryl Perkins

Revelation 19:10 – “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

Prophecy is a divine gift—an open channel between heaven and earth that allows believers to hear from God and declare His truth. It is more than foretelling the future; it is a weapon of mass destruction against the lies of the enemy, dismantling strongholds, exposing darkness, and releasing divine strategy.

    What Is Prophecy?

The gift of prophecy is the ability to receive and communicate divine revelation. It is the supernatural capacity to hear the voice of God and express His will to others, whether through preaching, teaching, singing, dancing, or other demonstrations of truth. This gift allows believers to receive messages from God for personal edification, for their loved ones, or for the body of Christ. Prophecy does not exist in contradiction to Scripture but works in harmony with it as a guiding force for the church (1 Corinthians 14:3).

    The Purpose of Prophecy

Paul describes prophecy as a gift for edification, exhortation, and comfort (1 Corinthians 14:3). It is not about stirring up fear or manipulating people but about strengthening, encouraging, and guiding the people of God.

    • Edification – Prophecy builds up the believer and the church, reinforcing spiritual foundations and ensuring alignment with God’s will.

    • Exhortation – It challenges and calls believers to action, urging them to walk in obedience and faith.

    • Comfort – It reassures believers, reminding them of God’s faithfulness, presence, and plans for their lives.

    Prophecy as Divine Revelation

Prophecy can bring divine revelation concerning past, present, or future events. It can expose hidden issues, confirm God’s direction, or warn against impending danger. It is not merely predictive but also instructive—guiding believers in their walk with Christ. Examples of prophetic revelation include:

    • Past: Healing from past wounds or understanding generational blessings and curses.

    • Present: Direction in decision-making, encouragement during trials, or wisdom for current circumstances.

    • Future: Prophetic insight into upcoming events, divine appointments, or warnings to prepare for challenges ahead.

The Role of the Holy Spirit in Prophecy

Prophecy is a spiritual gift given by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:10). It is not based on human intellect but on divine inspiration. The Holy Spirit reveals truth and guides believers into God’s perfect will. As individuals, we must be open to receiving prophetic words, whether directly from God or through His vessels.

Declaring and Praying Over Prophetic Words

A prophetic word is not simply something to be heard—it must be acted upon. We are to declare, pray over, and steward the specifics given to us by others or directly from the Holy Spirit concerning our lives.

    • Declaring: Speaking prophetic words aloud reinforces faith and aligns us with God’s promises (Job 22:28).

    • Praying: Prayer activates prophetic words, inviting God’s will to manifest (1 Timothy 1:18).

    • Journaling & Rehearsing: Writing down and revisiting prophetic words helps us track their fulfillment and remain aligned with God’s direction.

    Prophecy and the Ekklesia

Prophecy is a gift for the ekklesia—the called-out ones, the church. It is meant to equip the saints, dismantle strongholds, and advance the Kingdom of God. The prophetic voice silences the enemy, exposes deception, and releases divine strategy. As we grow in the gift of prophecy, we become spiritual warriors, declaring the will of God with boldness and authority.

Prophetic Expression Through the Creative Arts

One of the most powerful ways to express prophecy is through the creative arts. God speaks not only through words but through movement, sound, and visual representation. The arts become a prophetic tool to demonstrate what God is saying and doing in the earth.

James 1:17 – “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

The gifts of creativity—whether through music, dance, song, poetry, drama, painting, or writing—are divine deposits that reveal God’s heart. The Holy Spirit can move through these expressions, bringing revelation, healing, and transformation.

    • Creative Writing & Poetry – Prophetic words can be expressed through poems, spoken word, and storytelling, weaving divine truths into narratives that reach the soul.

    • Plays & Drama – Theatrical expressions of biblical and prophetic messages can visually illustrate the move of God and His intentions for His people.

    • Dance & Movement – Prophetic dance is a powerful way to intercede and declare victory through movement, embodying the heart of God in worship.

    • Song & Music – Prophetic songs can be spontaneous or written, bringing forth melodies that release divine revelation and healing.

    • Visual Arts – Paintings, drawings, and digital art can convey prophetic messages, giving tangible form to spiritual realities.

These creative expressions allow the church to engage with prophecy in a multidimensional way, making the voice of God visible, audible, and experiential.

    A Call to Prophetic Activation

God is raising up prophetic voices in this hour—voices that will speak truth, challenge darkness, and proclaim His Kingdom. If you desire to walk in the power of prophecy, begin by:

    1. Seeking God’s Voice – Spend time in prayer and worship, asking God to speak.

    2. Studying Scripture – Align every prophetic word with the Word of God.

    3. Practicing Discernment – Test every spirit and seek wise counsel (1 John 4:1).

    4. Stewarding Prophetic Words – Record, declare, and pray over the words you receive.

    5. Operating in Faith – Step out boldly, trusting God to guide your words and actions.

    Final Thought

Prophecy is a weapon, a divine tool to destroy the works of the enemy and establish the Kingdom of God on earth. As believers, we are called to operate in the spirit of prophecy, declaring and demonstrating the truth of Jesus Christ. May we rise in boldness, stewarding the prophetic with integrity, and using it to edify, exhort, and comfort the body of Christ.

Are you ready to wield the power of prophecy?
