The Power of the Pause in Leadership Decisions

Leadership decisions rarely fail because of a lack of intelligence or experience. More often, they falter when leaders feel pressured to move before clarity has fully formed. In fast-paced environments, the instinct to act quickly can overshadow the discipline to pause—yet it is often the pause that protects integrity and sharpens judgment.
In Matthew 6:13, Jesus teaches us to pray, “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” While this prayer is deeply personal, it also offers a powerful leadership principle. Temptation in leadership rarely appears as obvious wrongdoing. More commonly, it emerges as subtle shortcuts, emotional reactions, or decisions made too quickly—before values, purpose, and alignment have had space to settle.
