The 'Why' Factor: Finding Your Chazon (Vision)

    Mar 22, 2026by S.N. Perkins

Let’s be real for a second: Have you ever woken up on a Tuesday morning, stared at your ceiling, and thought, “Is this actually it?” You’ve got the job (or you’re looking for the one), you’ve got the Spotify playlists, and you’ve got a loose plan for the weekend. But underneath the daily grind, there’s this nagging feeling that you’re just… existing. You’re doing the "what" and the "how," but the "why" is missing in action.

As a young adult, the pressure to "find your purpose" feels like being told to find a needle in a haystack, except the haystack is on fire and everyone on Instagram is recording themselves finding their needles effortlessly.

At Chazon Strategies, we use the word Chazon for a reason. It’s a Hebrew word that means "vision" or "divine revelation." It’s not just a five-year plan written in a dusty notebook; it’s the spark that turns a mundane existence into a focused legacy. Finding your purpose as a young adult isn't about stumbling upon a magical career; it’s about uncovering your Chazon.

What is Chazon Anyway? (And Why Do You Need It?)

Most people live life like they’re driving in heavy fog. They can see about five feet in front of them, so they stay in their lane and hope they don't hit anything. That’s survival. Having a "Chazon" is like the fog lifting and realizing you aren't just on a random road: you’re on a highway heading toward a specific destination.

Without vision, we drift. We take jobs we hate because they pay for subscriptions we don’t use. We enter relationships that don't fit our values because we haven't defined what those values are. In the Bible, there’s a famous proverb that says, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." In modern terms? Without a "Why," you’re going to burn out before you even get started.

Finding your purpose as a young adult is about moving from "What am I doing?" to "Who am I becoming?" It’s the difference between working for a paycheck and working for a legacy.

    The "Why" vs. The "What"

We spend 90% of our energy on the "What."

    • What degree should I get?
    • What car should I drive?
    • What city should I move to?

But the "What" is fragile. If you lose the job, who are you? If you move and the city isn't what you expected, what’s left? The "Why" is the anchor. If your "Why" is to empower others, you can do that as a barista, a CEO, or a parent. The "What" is just the vehicle; the "Why" is the fuel.

When you nail down your Chazon, your decisions become 10x easier. Should you take that promotion that pays more but kills your soul? Check your vision. Should you invest in that life insurance policy now or blow the money on a designer bag? Check your legacy goals.

How to Start Finding Your Purpose

You don't need a mountaintop experience to find your "Why." You just need a little bit of honesty and a lot of self-reflection. Here are three ways to start digging:

    1. Audit Your Joys and Your Frustrations

What makes you angry? Not "stuck in traffic" angry, but "this is a problem in the world that shouldn't exist" angry. Often, your purpose is hidden in the things you wish you could fix. On the flip side, what are you doing when you completely lose track of time? That "flow state" is a massive clue to your design.

    2. Look at Your Patterns

You’ve lived long enough to have a history. Look back at your childhood and your teen years. What were the recurring themes? Were you always the one organizing the group? Were you the one people came to for advice? Were you the one who couldn't stop creating? Your past is a roadmap to your Chazon.

    3. Identify Your Non-Negotiables

What do you value most? Freedom? Security? Community? Excellence? If you value community but you're working a job that isolates you 60 hours a week, you're going to feel out of alignment. Finding your purpose as a young adult is often just a process of aligning your daily actions with your deep-seated values.

    Survival Mode vs. Purpose Mode

A lot of us are stuck in "Survival Mode." We’re just trying to pay the rent, keep the credit score decent, and survive the work week. There’s no shame in that: we’ve all been there. But the goal of Chazon Strategies is to get you out of survival and into " Purpose Mode."

In Survival Mode, you’re reactive. Life happens to you. In Purpose Mode, you’re proactive. You happen to life.

When you have a Chazon, you start managing your life like a business (we call this being your own Personal CFO). You see your time, your money, and your energy as assets to be invested, not just expenses to be paid. You realize that things like financial literacy and life insurance aren't "boring adult stuff": they are tools that protect your vision and ensure your "Why" outlasts you.

The Roadblocks: Why Most People Never Find Their 'Why'

If finding your purpose was easy, everyone would be walking around glowing with fulfillment. The truth is, there are some major hurdles in the way:

    • Comparison: It is the thief of Chazon. You can't see your own vision if you’re too busy staring at someone else’s highlight reel. Your purpose is uniquely yours. It doesn't have to look like a TED Talk to be valid.
    • Fear of Commitment: Choosing a "Why" feels like closing doors on other options. But guess what? If you don't choose a door, you’re just standing in the hallway forever.
    • Noise: We live in the loudest era of human history. Between notifications, podcasts, and endless scrolling, we rarely have the silence needed to hear our own hearts.

Why Life Coaching is the Shortcut

You don't have to do this alone. In fact, most people who find their Chazon have someone in their corner: a coach, a mentor, or a strategist. A life coach doesn't give you the answers; they ask the questions you’ve been avoiding.

At Chazon Strategies, we believe that life coaching is the bridge between knowing you have a purpose and actually living it. We help you cut through the noise, identify your unique strengths, and build a system of discipline that keeps you on track. We don't just talk about "vibes"; we talk about identity, legacy, and the practical steps to get there.

    Legacy: The Ultimate "Why"

Ultimately, your Chazon isn't just about you. It’s about the people who come after you. This is where our focus on insurance and financial strategy meets life coaching.

Imagine your life is a house. Your "Why" is the blueprint. Your daily discipline is the construction. Your financial strategy: things like life insurance and wealth building: is the foundation that ensures the house doesn't fall down when the storms hit.

Finding your purpose as a young adult means realizing that you are the architect of a legacy. You are building something that your children and your community will inherit. When you see your life through that lens, suddenly the "boring" stuff becomes incredibly meaningful.

    It’s Time to Stop Wandering

You were not created to just pay bills and die. You were created with a specific Chazon: a vision that only you can fulfill.

So, here’s your homework: Put the phone down for 30 minutes. Sit in a quiet space. Ask yourself, "If money and fear weren't factors, what would I be building?"

The answer to that question is the first thread of your "Why." Pull on it. See where it leads. And if you need a hand navigating the journey, that’s exactly what we’re here for.

Your vision is waiting. Let’s go find it.
